The emphasis is placed on shaping your identity and enhancing your employability as a practitioner psychologist, fostering skills in assessment, formulation, leadership, service evaluation, psychological testing, and both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Attracting a diverse group of trainees with backgrounds in counseling, psychotherapy, research, academia, and the NHS, the program is tailored for individuals passionate about becoming counseling psychologists. Rooted in a pluralistic relational philosophy, the course values diversity and advocates for individual empowerment and social change. This approach respects various psychological interventions and research methods, recognizing relationships as pivotal to well-being. Trainees are empowered to make a positive impact at both individual and societal levels through their clinical and research endeavors. In the first two years of your training, you will concentrate on gaining clinical experience in person-centered and psychodynamic models of therapy. In the third year, you have the option to further your experience by working in a cognitive-behavioral, integrative, or pluralistic model. By the end of the program, you will have accrued a minimum of 450 supervised client hours in various placement settings. From the second year onward, you will begin crafting a doctoral portfolio that showcases and integrates your learning as a counseling psychologist, spanning both professional practice and research domains. The portfolio includes elements like research papers that you will be encouraged to submit for publication, augmenting your professional contributions and employability. Throughout your training, you will cultivate key transferable skills in research, psychological testing, service evaluation, teamwork, and leadership. Your progress will be closely supported and monitored, utilizing formative and summative assessments and involving clinical tutors and research supervisors.
