BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical Science

University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom

Course Overview

embark on a comprehensive journey into the world of pharmaceutical science with our program. In your first year, you'll build a solid foundation by immersing yourself in the lab and the library. Engage in hands-on experimental techniques, work with powerful data and analytical tools, and explore subjects such as human physiology, biology, biochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, and the fundamentals of analytical chemistry. This foundational knowledge will equip you with an understanding of how medicines are created, how they interact with the body, and the critical aspects of ensuring their safety. Moving into your second year, you'll put your theoretical knowledge into practice. Dive into the realms of drug discovery and formulation, delve into the synthesis of medicines and natural products, and explore the design of advanced treatments using artificial intelligence. Gain insights into lab practices, drug safety, and metabolism in the human body. The second year serves as a stepping stone to a powerful placement year, providing you with the opportunity to gain practical experience and insights to bolster your CV. Consider a study abroad or work placement option, where you can explore opportunities in research institutions, healthcare companies, agrochemical organizations, environmental agencies, pharmaceutical, and biotech companies. Previous students have undertaken placements worldwide, enhancing their global perspective. In your final year, you'll spend the first 12 weeks dedicated to full-time lab work, tackling a real-life research problem that refines your lab and research skills. The culmination of your academic journey includes studying a simulated regulatory science module in the last semester. This module delves into the translation of medicines from the laboratory to the clinic, allowing you to specialize in either medicine design or formulation development. Our dedicated staff in Pharmaceutical Science are experts in their field, ready to guide you through your academic and research endeavors. Join us on this exciting journey and gain the skills and knowledge needed to contribute to the innovative and dynamic field of pharmaceutical science.
