Course Overview

Embark on an exhilarating journey to design aircraft with our specialized program that immerses you in the intricate world of aerospace engineering. At our institution, aerospace isn't just a subject; it's a rich part of our history and the foundation on which we began. With a legacy dating back to 1952, when our collaboration with the de Havilland Aircraft Corporation and BAE Systems laid the groundwork for aerospace engineering education, we take pride in our longstanding contribution to this dynamic field. Our passionate instructors are dedicated to providing you with comprehensive training in every aspect of aircraft design, from understanding aircraft structures and materials to mastering the principles of aerodynamics. The aerospace industry recognizes and values the quality of our program, evident in our excellent and well-established reputation. Join us, and be part of a legacy that has shaped the careers of aerospace engineers for decades. Explore your passion, hone your skills, and launch your career in aerospace engineering with confidence. In your first year, embark on a journey of discovery as you acquire the foundational skills and knowledge essential for a modern engineer. Delve into the principles of flight and aircraft operations, while gaining hands-on experience with computer packages widely used in the aerospace industry. As you progress to the second year, the core themes from your first year evolve into a deeper exploration of aerospace engineering. Engage in the design process through group and detail design work, expanding your understanding of aerodynamics through wind tunnel experiments. For those with aspirations to take flight, the opportunity to fly at a local school awaits. Between your second and final year, embrace a transformative experience with the option to embark on a work placement or study abroad for up to a year. This not only enriches your personal and professional growth but also provides a significant boost to your CV. If you prefer to proceed directly to your final year, that option is entirely available. In your final year, two impactful projects await you. The Aerospace Design group project challenges you to showcase your engineering prowess by designing and test-flying an aircraft using our cutting-edge flight simulator. Each year presents a different design task, with students previously working on wide-body commercial airliners, heavy cargo aircraft, fire-fighting planes, and even strategic bombers. Simultaneously, the Individual Major Project invites you to immerse yourself in an area of aerospace engineering you're passionate about, utilizing either university or industrial facilities. This rewarding culmination of your degree not only demonstrates your expertise but can also pave the way for future employment opportunities.
