The Creative Writing and History program offers a multifaceted learning experience. In Creative Writing, the focus extends beyond storytelling to engaging readers, capturing attention, and mastering communication skills applicable to various career paths such as communication, education, and business. History, on the other hand, involves understanding the modern world, reflecting on past events, and developing skills in interpreting, analyzing, and critically evaluating historical accounts. In the first year, students explore diverse historical eras and take a specialized module to transition to university-level historical study. For Creative Writing, there's a hands-on module called 'Becoming a Writer,' covering various genres, screenwriting, and fiction world-building. The second year introduces optional modules, providing the flexibility to tailor the curriculum to individual interests. Creative Writing students can delve into poetry, playwriting, or literature, while History students may opt for modules such as making a historical documentary, studying the British Empire, or exploring crime in 16th to 18th century England. The program offers a work placement or study abroad option between the second and final year, enhancing practical experience and boosting CVs. The third year focuses on refining skills through workshops, seminars, and lectures. Students can undertake independent research in History and work on a Creative Writing project, choosing between poetry or prose. This final project serves as a culmination of three years of study, showcasing the depth of knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program. The combination of Creative Writing and History provides a rich and versatile academic experience, preparing students for a range of professions and creative pursuits.
