BA (Hons) History

University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom

Course Overview

The History program offers a comprehensive exploration of the making of the modern world. In the first year, students delve into modules covering diverse topics such as faith, magic, medicine, campaigns for freedom and equality, Africa, and the global impact of America from Hamilton to Trump. Moving into the second year, students gain the flexibility to tailor their studies by choosing specialized modules. Options include examining family life in the 18th century, 20th-century politics, crime and society in the 16th century, British imperialism, and more. An intriguing opportunity is the chance to learn how to create a historical documentary, acquiring transferable skills that enhance versatility. The program provides a valuable work placement or study abroad option between the second and final year. This experience not only offers an enriching adventure but also provides a significant boost to the student's CV. For those who prefer to proceed directly to the final year, that option is available as well. In the third and final year, students continue to delve into their areas of interest while also embarking on a final history project, known as a dissertation. This independent research project allows students to explore a topic of their choosing, synthesizing the skills and knowledge acquired throughout the program. The culmination of the program prepares students for the transition into the workforce, equipped with a deep understanding of historical perspectives and critical thinking skills.
