We find ourselves in an era deeply immersed in cultural and historical influences, where our society is saturated with an unprecedented abundance of photography. It is our mission to equip students with the essential visual and technical skills required to comprehend, critically analyze, and contemplate diverse visual languages. Proficiency in understanding the medium of photography and its intentional utilization is crucial not only in the realm of art but also in the domains of advertising and editorial work. The University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) stands at the forefront with a groundbreaking study program dedicated to this field. As one of the initial German private universities to establish a photography program, we offer students the opportunity to explore various photographic genres, including portrait, fashion, art, and documentary, throughout their course of study.
It
was formed in 2017 as the University of Applied Sciences Europe by a merger of the Business and Information
Technology School and the Berliner Technische
Kunsthochschule. The university was previously owned by the
American company Laureate Education and
was acquired by Global University Systems in
2018. In October 2020, the university changed its name to University of Europe
for Applied Sciences.
The Bachelor's degree programme Photography & New Media is divided into module groups. In the basics, creative skills such as light, colour design and image composition, as well as the complete analogue and digital workflow, are taught. In parallel, the theoretical subjects provide an overview of historical and contemporary developments in art, photography, design and film.
In the project modules, there is the possibility of specialisation in individual genres of photography. Students can use our professional equipment (photo studios, the darkroom, printing workshop, scan labs, Mac Pools and loan equipment) for their projects.
The range of interdisciplinary courses, workshops and study trips also allows students to acquire knowledge from other design courses. The choice between an internship in Germany or abroad or a guest study programme at one of our partner universities is intended to broaden your personal and professional horizons before the final semester of the bachelor's degree, when the sharpening and definition of your individual photographic profile are imminent.
