Module No. 1: Research Methods
- Description: This module provides an introduction to research methods in criminology. Students will learn about qualitative and quantitative research techniques, data collection methods, ethical considerations, and research design. Emphasis will be placed on critical evaluation of research literature and developing research proposals.
Module No. 2: Criminological Theory
- Description: This module explores key theories and perspectives in criminology. Students will examine classical, biological, psychological, sociological, and critical criminological theories to understand the causes and explanations of criminal behavior.
Module No. 3: The Criminal Justice System
- Description: This module provides an overview of the criminal justice system, including its institutions, processes, and actors. Students will study the functions of law enforcement, courts, corrections, and the role of various stakeholders in the administration of justice.
Module No. 4: Contemporary Society and Issues in Criminology
- Description: Students will analyze contemporary social issues and trends relevant to criminology and criminal justice. Topics may include globalization, migration, social inequality, drug policy, terrorism, and the impact of technology on crime.
Module No. 5: Psychology of Crime
- Description: This module explores the psychological factors influencing criminal behavior. Students will examine topics such as personality disorders, psychopathy, criminal profiling, and the psychology of victimization and rehabilitation.
Module No. 6: Policing, Social Actions and Conflict
- Description: Students will explore the role of policing in society, including its historical development, functions, and challenges. Emphasis will be placed on community policing, police discretion, use of force, and the relationship between law enforcement and diverse communities.
Module No. 7: Compliance & Corporate Crime
- Description: This module examines white-collar crime, corporate wrongdoing, and regulatory compliance. Students will analyze the dynamics of corporate criminal behavior, regulatory responses, and corporate social responsibility.
Module No. 8: Capstone Dissertation
- Description: In this final module, students will conduct independent research on a topic of their choice within the field of criminology and criminal justice. Under the supervision of a faculty member, students will develop research questions, conduct a literature review, collect and analyze data, and write a substantial dissertation demonstrating their mastery of criminological concepts and research methods.
